Bulgaria: Almost All Provinces Under “Code Orange” Weather Warning

A Code Orange dangerous weather warning was in place for almost all of Bulgaria, for Thursday, June 28th, 2018. The only district which got a slightly less dangerous Code Yellow warning was Vidin.

In Western Bulgaria, excessive rainfall of 30 to 50 liters per square meter was expected on Thursday. In Central and Eastern Bulgaria, thunderstorms were forecasted, on top of the same amount of rain.

Code Orange warnings stand for actual danger. Staying indoors is advisable. Driving and traveling is not recommended.

Rain of the kind expected can lead to flooding, damage and injuries, as a result. Thunderstorms are dangerous in all cases.

On Wednesday. June 27th, Code Orange alerts were given in 11 of the 28 Bulgarian provinces, again for excessive rain with thunderstorms. These are the districts affected:

Plovdiv, Gabrovo, Veliko Turnovo, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Burgas, Yambol, Haskovo, Kardjali, Lovech and Smolyan.

In the past two weeks, it has rained a lot in locations all over Bulgaria. In Sofia, Varna and Burgas, tunnels, streets and basements were flooded on at least one occasion per city. In Sofia, a lot of water even entered subway stations.

The latest weather warnings show that the danger is not over.

According to forecasters, the clouds over Bulgaria are supposed to disappear within about a week.
